Laid on my heart | Asheville Wedding Photography

UPDATE : Scroll to the bottom of this post.

This post has been a long time in the making.

For several months now, I have felt this urgent notion to pay it forward. I asked myself, “What is something unique and valuable that only I can do for someone else?”

I have such wonderful friends and family and sooo many supporters in both my personal life and my business. My life has been blessed, there’s no doubt about it. I signed up to be a ‘Wish Granter’ for Wish Upon a Wedding, an organization that provides weddings for couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, but sadly there are no chapters in the Asheville area, making it highly unlikely that any opportunity will arise this year. But this has been laid on my heart and now, it’s my turn to give back.

In 2011, I will be giving away free wedding photography to one deserving couple.

-you may submit you own name or the names of another deserving couple that you know
-the couple must be getting married in 2011 and on a date that I’m not already booked

I will announce the top three deserving couples and post their photos and stories here on or before April 13, 2011. From there, blog readers will be able to vote for their favorite deserving couple until April 23, 2011 11:59 EST. The winning couple will be announced April 24, 2011.

As I write this addition on April 11th, only two days before the top three deserving couples are due to be announced, I have a heavy heart. A surprisingly and disappointingly low number of submissions were received. Not only that, but every single submission I did receive was for a date I am already unavailable. This is a bit ironic, considering I only book 20-22 weddings per year, but I’m convinced there’s a reason behind everything and maybe I just haven’t found the right couple yet.

I will be dropping all the contest aspects of this giveaway. But please do not hesitate to submit your name or the names of another deserving couple that you know. I’m still completely open to the idea of assisting a truly deserving couple if the right opportunity presented itself.

So, pass along this link. Recommend a deserving friend. Spread the word. I look forward to the opportunity to help out a wonderful couple who has dealt with many hardships but is still a constant inspiration to others.

Asheville Engagement Photography | Kasey and Justin

When I start to think about all the things I have in common with Kasey and Justin it is pretty unbelievable.  The way they interact with each other… it reminds me of no one else except my husband and I. They are so cute and playful with one another and it’s obvious that before everything else they are first and foremost each others’ greatest companion. They’re best friends and, in my opinion, marrying your best friend is having the best of both worlds   :)  And for those of you who don’t know, I also have a degree in Special Education and low and behold, Kasey and Justin are both teachers! Kasey actually teaches at the high school we both attended  :) Lastly, Kasey and Justin are getting married at the same venue my husband and I were married at nearly two years ago. Taylor Ranch is such a beautiful venue and for any bride reading this who is looking for a non-traditional, southern but not redneck, rural Asheville venue… you should definitely check it out  :)  It of course holds a very special place in my heart and paired with an awesome couple, it’s needless to say I’m super excited to be photographing Kasey and Justin’s wedding on July 16th!

Asheville Engagement Photographer | Courtney and Dustin

Courtney and Dustin are high school sweethearts (let’s hear it because I know we’re all thinking it — ‘Awww!’) If you’ve ever known someone with an absolutely contagious smile who has the ability to light up a room when they walk into it, that would be Courtney. One of the first things she said to me when I commented on it was, “My smile and eyes are so crazy, I’ve been asked so many times in the past if I’m Asian!” No, my dear, just 100% adorable.

As for Dustin, one glance at him while he’s with Courtney and you can tell that he’s totally, completely, helplessly, head-over-heels in love with her. As cliche, as that may sound, it’s nothing short of the truth. For instance, during our session, I asked them to do something crazy and climb a tree (I ask my clients to do absurd things quite often – anything for the shot, right?!) Courtney, being her adorable self, was the brave one and was the first to begin climbing. Little more than five steps up the tree and she comes rolling back down it as if she’s transformed into Sonic the Hedgehog. After realizing she was 100% okay and how Sonic himself couldn’t have taken a more graceful of a fall, the two of us burst into laughter. Dustin, well…. he needed a little more convincing. You could see the concern in his eyes and after about ten minutes of asking Courtney if she was okay, scolding her that she shouldn’t have been so daring, and specifically asking if certain body parts were still in tact, he was finally convinced that his fiance was in good shape  :)  It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.

Courtney and Dustin, y’all are so awesome. Please know that I am counting down the days until your wedding.
